The lock is a squared, rounded-edge block in gold-tone metal with a raised interlaced LV monogram on the front. The back is signed in clean impressed lettering with the registered mark, LOUIS VUITTON, PARIS and made in France. The number 309 is stamped on the lock's lower edge and again on the bow of its key, so the two belong together. A U-shaped shackle completes the form. It is the kind of lock that has long accompanied the house's travel pieces and handbags, and it works just as well as an object on its own.
