Description
A decorative pair of vintage figural bookends rendered in the classic 1930s French Art Deco style. The design replicates the famous "Insouciance" (Carefree) model originally popularized in Paris. Each piece features a geometric stylized female nude gracefully leaning back atop a modernist pedestal pillar. Unlike French spelter castings, this particular set features the American stamping "PAT APPL FOR" cast into the lower inner column of the pedestal, denoting its vintage American manufacturing history. The bookends are finished in a heavy, textured apple-green painted coat that displays an appealing, heavily crazed and aged alligator texture throughout. Signatures & Markings • Stamps: Raised lettering reading "PAT APPL FOR" on the interior channel of the pedestal support base. Specifications • Design Motif: After the "Insouciance" model • Style: Art Deco Revival • Materials: Heavy Cast Metal (Iron or Spelter Alloy) • Finish: Painted Matte Textured Green
