Item Information

Description

Ladies' Hermes Clipper wristwatch in two-tone stainless steel with gold-plated accents, on the signature H-link bracelet. The cream dial is signed "HERMES PARIS" with Arabic numerals, a date window at the 3 o'clock position, and "SWISS MADE" at the base; the round bezel is secured with visible screws, a hallmark of the Clipper. The case back is engraved with the Hermes carriage-and-horse crest, the interlocking "H" logo, and "WATER RESISTANT QUARTZ," an interlocking-H hallmark is stamped on the case flank, and a bracelet link plate is stamped "HERMES PARIS." The small ladies' case measures roughly 24mm in diameter excluding the crown. Condition shows moderate to heavy wear: notable loss and thinning of the gold plating across the bracelet links, surface scratches, and tarnish/patina to the steel. Running/working condition. Notes from the Curator Hermès introduced the Clipper in 1981, conceived by designer Henri d'Origny as an evocation of the swift three-masted sailing vessels that plied the tea and cotton routes in the second half of the nineteenth century. The round case and bezel are modelled after a ship's porthole, and six relief rivets encircle the bezel as if bolted down against the sea. The 24 mm quartz reference CL4.210 represents the original feminine format, compact enough to slip beneath a cuff and offered in two-tone stainless steel with gold-plated accents—a cosmopolitan finish that bridged sport and salon when the maison began broadening its watch programme in the early nineteen-eighties. The bracelet links form the house's initial H, a motif that appears again on the case flank and subtly reinforces the Faubourg Saint-Honoré provenance without resort to overt branding. The case back is engraved with the carriage-and-servant emblem and interlocking H, marks registered in 1945 to signify the atelier's commitment to delivering excellence rather than simply possessing it.
