An exceptional mid-to-late 20th-century artisan cast bronze studio centerpiece bowl executing a powerful modernist interpretation of the classical myth Europa and the Bull.The basin features heavily textured, hand-wrought interior and exterior surfaces. Incised into the exterior wall is a fine, fluidly rendered portrait of Europa with stylized, wind-swept hair emerging amidst loose, wavy linear patterns suggesting the sea. The lower exterior edge erupts into a high-relief, abstractly sculpted head of the bull, providing structural mass and raw texture. Perched dynamically atop the bowl's upper rim is a balance-cast, highly abstracted human figure captured mid-stride.The object exhibits excellent Brutalist and expressionist design characteristics. The metal retains a rich golden-brown patination with subtle surface variations that accentuate the hand-carved textures of the original wax model. Displays an attractive, naturally aged warm bronze patina with minor surface handling wear.
